Decide first whether a pendant will hang on it. If one will, or the chain never comes off, take solid links, since light links can dent. Then pick the width by the job. What is a Franco chain, and how is it different from a box chain?
A Franco is a woven chain of V-shaped links folded into each other from four sides, so it wears as a dense square rod that lies flat. A box chain is a string of single square links, open where the Franco is dense.
Solid links or light links on a Franco chain: which should I buy?
Take solid links if a pendant will hang from it or it never comes off your neck. Light links give you the same width for less gold, but they can dent. In 14K at 3.5 mm, solid links here carry about twice the gold.
How thick should a men's Franco chain be?
Two to 3 mm is the everyday Franco. Go under 2 mm to carry a light pendant or to layer. Wear 4 mm or more on its own.
