How to buy gold rings for men by size, karat and weight

Settle your size and the karat first, then choose a diamond band or plain gold

Settle the size before anything else, because a resized ring is final. Have your finger measured, and do not round, since most listings carry the half sizes. The ring sizer on this page finds it in a minute. Choose 14K if the ring goes on every day. Then choose diamonds or plain gold, and read the grams on the listing. If a stone is not called lab-grown or natural, ask the desk.

Find your ring size in a minute

Your screen becomes the sizer. On most phones it is already true size, and a quarter lets you check. Then measure the finger you will wear the ring on, with a ring that already fits that finger or with a strip of paper.

Lay a quarter flat on the screen, over the coin, and move the slider until the coin on the screen is exactly the size of yours. No quarter? 2. Measure

Take a ring that fits the same finger of the same hand the new ring will live on; every finger is its own size. Set it on the screen over the circle and move the slider until the circle just fills the inside of the ring.

Between two sizes? Take the one that passes the knuckle and sits snug below it. A wide band, 8 mm and up, fits tighter, so go up a half size. Measure at the end of the day, at room temperature.

Style: diamond rings, Cuban link bands, wedding and eternity bands for men

Start with the Cuban link band, the style that leads the sales here. Cubans bring in about a fifth of the sales, and most of them carry diamonds. An eternity band sets diamonds all the way around, so it cannot be resized: order the exact size. For no stone at all, take a plain 14K wedding band. Size: what size gold ring men wear, half sizes, one-size rings

Buy the size your finger measures, never a guess. Three rings in four here come in a 10, and most come in half sizes, so do not round. Some rings come in one size only, so read the list first. Get your number from the ring sizer on this page, and if your size is missing, ask the desk before you order.

Metal: 10K vs 14K vs 18K gold ring for men, yellow, white or rose

For a ring on your hand every day, take 14K. More than four fifths of the sales here go to that karat, and it takes knocks better than the richer golds. 10K holds less gold and a paler yellow. 18K gives a deeper color and marks sooner.

For color, match the gold you already wear. Most listings come in all three. A color in the title only names the photo. No listing here says whether its white gold is rhodium-plated, so ask.

Weight: grams in a gold ring for men, and the Cuban link ring by width

Read the grams first. The middle ring here lists 14.3 grams. A wedding band runs lightest, and an animal head weighs about twice the middle ring.

On a Cuban band the width decides it. Most listings print one weight for every size, so ask the desk for the grams in yours.
