What to send, the 3D design you approve, the gold and the stones, the payments, and every kind of custom piece on one page
Custom jewelry starts with what you send the desk: photos, a sketch, a name or a piece from this page. The deposit covers the 3D design; once you approve its renderings, the balance pays for the making. The pieces here are past custom work: pendants and rings above all, most of them in 14K gold.
How it works: custom jewelry made to order, from your idea to the finished piece
Every custom piece, from a pendant or a ring to one of our custom chains, runs through the same four steps, and the desk handles each project personally.
- Send your idea: photos of what you like, a sketch, a name, or the item number of a piece on this page with what you want changed.
- Pay the deposit for the 3D design. The desk quotes a starting figure and the deposit first, so you know both before you begin.
- Approve the 3D renderings. You can ask for up to three rounds of changes before you sign off.
- Pay the balance, and the piece is made.
Ask the desk how long your piece will take before you pay the deposit, and give it your date up front if you have one. Begin on the live chat; to talk it through, call or text 212-872-9692, and from 10 AM ET a person answers.
What to send: photos, a sketch, the name and the size for a custom piece
Reference photos help most: the piece you have in mind, from the front and the side, and any detail you like, such as a letter style or the way the stones are laid. Then give the facts the design needs:
- The metal: 14K, 10K or 18K gold, or .925 silver, and the gold color.
- The size: the width in inches for a pendant, the length for a chain or a bracelet, or your ring size.
- The stones: diamonds or none, and lab-grown or natural.
- For a name or a photo piece: the exact spelling, or the photo itself.
The kinds: custom pendants, rings, chains, bracelets and name jewelry
Pendants fill most of this page: figures, faith pieces, animals, logos and the like, plus photo pendants, initials and name pieces. Rings come next, then bracelets, chains and a few earring listings. The table below names the page that shows each kind on its own, among them custom pendants, custom rings, custom chains, custom bracelets and name pendants for men.
In sales, the figure and faith pendants lead this page, then the 24K gold bills, at 1, 5 and 10 grams of pure gold, then the rings and the photo pendants.
Gold and stones: custom gold jewelry in 14K, 10K or 18K, silver, lab-grown or natural diamonds
About nine in ten pieces here are karat gold, most of them 14K, then 10K and 18K, and a few in 22K or 24K. Most of the rest are .925 silver, and a few are platinum. For a piece worn every day, 14K is the usual pick here; 10K is harder and paler, 18K richer in color and softer.
About four in five pieces here carry diamonds. Most of those read natural on the origin line and about one in eight lab-grown; a few give no origin, so ask the desk about them. Both kinds are real diamonds, and on new work you choose which. Black diamonds are on a few pieces, and about one in ten is tagged with colored gemstones. The two kinds of diamond are compared in lab-grown or natural, and the three golds in the karat guide.
Payments and returns: the custom jewelry deposit, final sale and the refund policy
The deposit pays for the 3D design, and the balance is paid before the making. Under the refund policy, custom, name and photo work is final, and so is every payment toward a custom piece. A piece already made and in our listings can come back within 14 calendar days of confirmed delivery, new, unworn and unaltered, only on a label TraxNYC issues, less the 5 percent restocking fee and the return shipping. A size made to order is final. The policy sets watches and gold bullion apart: a watch is final, and bullion is outside the standard return: if it is accepted back, it is refunded at the current gold scrap value. Ask the desk which applies to yours before you pay.
A few listings here ask for a quote instead of printing a price; the rest print their own. To collect a piece on 47th Street, the shipping policy asks for approval by email first, and the cardholder brings a photo ID, the card used and the order confirmation email. That policy also covers the warranty plans and the appraisal.
Questions we get in the store
How does custom jewelry work, from idea to finished piece?
You send the desk your idea, and it quotes the piece. Your deposit covers the 3D design; you approve its renderings, with up to three rounds of changes, then pay the balance, and the piece is made. The desk handles each project personally.
What should I send to start a custom piece?
Photos of what you have in mind help most, or a sketch, or the item number of a piece on this page. Add the metal and gold color, the size, diamonds or none, and for a name piece the exact spelling.
Which metals and stones can I choose for a custom piece?
Gold in 10K, 14K or 18K, in yellow, white, rose or two-tone, or .925 silver. For stones, natural or lab-grown diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, opal or enamel, or none at all. The desk tells you what suits your design.
More questions we get
Will I see my custom design before it is made?
Yes. The deposit pays for a 3D design, and you see renderings of it before anything is made. You can ask for up to three rounds of changes; then you approve it and pay the balance.
How long does custom jewelry take to make?
Each piece is timed on its own, so put the question to the desk before any deposit is paid. Work begins once you approve the renderings and pay the balance. Need it for a date? Give the date in your first message.
Can I order a piece from this page with changes?
Ask the desk with its item number and what you want different: the name, the size, the gold or the stones. It tells you what can change and quotes it. A piece changed for you becomes custom work, so it is final.
Is custom jewelry here real gold, and are the diamonds real?
About nine in ten pieces here are solid karat gold, most of them 14K, and most of the rest are .925 silver. Nearly every diamond piece prints an origin, most of them natural and about one in eight lab-grown, both real diamonds. Ask the desk about the few with no origin line.
Can I return custom jewelry?
Custom, name and photo work is final, and so is any payment toward it. A piece already made and in our listings returns within 14 calendar days of confirmed delivery, new, unworn and unaltered, on a label TraxNYC issues, less the 5 percent restocking fee and the return shipping. Ask the desk which yours is.
How much does custom jewelry cost?
Each listing prints its own price, except a few that ask for a quote. A new piece is quoted by the desk: the gold's karat and grams, the stones and the work set the figure. Ask on the live chat, or call 212-872-9692 from 10 AM ET.
